ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Educating and Empowering Girls to Manage Menstrual Hygiene

RUFFO continues to advocate for menstrual hygiene through its Sauti Zetu TV show and social media platforms. The campaign uses these channels to advocate for the abolition of period tax, breaking taboos and social stigma surrounding menstruation, and ensuring that university student loans include an extra provision for girls to purchase period products.

The Hedhi Yangu Campaign also focuses on education and the donation of menstrual hygiene products to tackle period poverty. These efforts aim to reduce absenteeism among girls and ensure that they do not miss out on their education. Reducing absenteeism among girls during menstruation is crucial for their education and future opportunities. Many girls miss school because they cannot afford menstrual hygiene products or face social stigma related to menstruation. This absenteeism can lead to falling behind in studies, poor grades, and eventually, school dropout rates among girls.

RUFFO provides MHM education in schools for both boys and girls, emphasizing the importance of understanding and supporting menstrual hygiene. Educating boys is crucial in breaking down taboos and stigma surrounding menstruation, promoting empathy and understanding, and creating a supportive environment for girls.

The campaign's efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, Goal 4: Quality Education, and Goal 5: Gender Equality. By promoting menstrual health and hygiene, RUFFO empowers girls and boys to achieve their full potential, reduce gender inequality, and promote economic empowerment.

Support for the Hedhi Yangu Campaign can be in the form of donations or providing a space for donation boxes. Every contribution counts towards making a difference in the lives of Tanzanian children and young people.

Help us  create a brighter future for the children of Tanzania.
